Retainers

occlusal guards

Orthodontic retainers are custom-made devices, usually made of wires or clear plastic, that hold teeth in position after surgery or any method of realigning teeth. Retainers are most commonly used after orthodontics is complete and are a very important part of the continuing maintenance of teeth. Teeth are dynamic and want to move, retainers provide stability and prevent the teeth from shifting back after orthodontics. Retainers are an easy way to maintain the same bite and smile that the braces formed over the previous few years.

There are several types and forms of retainers that can be fabricated for an individual. Some are fixed or cemented in place while others are removable. Both have advantages and disadvantages. A quick consultation with Dr. Todd will demonstrate the best options for your specific dental need.
